My name is Ms. Rachael Lucas! This is my 9th year working at Moye Elementary and I was blessed to have received the class I wanted when applying for a job! I graduated with a degree in English from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and have completed training in all levels of Special Education and early childhood education. In December 2010 I received a Master’s in Special Education emphasizing in both early childhood interventions and Autism from the University of Texas-El Paso. My goal is to pursue a PhD which will focus on the importance of early interventions for children with autism.
My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with them to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences, learning creatively and learning through play. There is a goal and a reason for everything we do in the classroom. So while it may look like play to some-it is a valuable learning time for the children. I am really looking forward to a fun–filled and educational year!
